The Bath Apartment Book
United Kingdom
Set in stunning countryside, just over 100 miles west of London, the unique city of Bath, the most complete and best preserved Georgian city in Britain, is a beautiful place to spend some time. The city’s history began in AD44 when it became an important Roman settlement, Aquae Sulis, known for its hot mineral springs. Bath was prosperous throughout the Middle Ages, but its modern reknown dates from the 18th century, when it became a showcase for Georgian architecture under the architectural guidance of John Wood, who settled in Bath in 1727. Easy to explore on foot, Bath has attracted visitors for centuries. Its waters are still sought for medicinal purposes and its beautiful streets and crescents, lined with examples of magnificent Georgian architecture are a joy to wander around and explore.

Apart from the Roman Baths and the Abbey, both right at the historical centre of Bath, there are several interesting museums to discover, including the Museum of Costume, the Jane Austen Centre and Number 1 the Royal Crescent , an immaculate 18th century townhouse. Intersperse your visits with a meal in one of Bath’s many restaurants and pubs, or visit the charming Theatre Royal. Dating from 1805 and steeped in atmosphere, many performances are shown here pre-West End. For lovers of art there is the Holborne Museum of Art and the Victoria Art Gallery, and just outside the city, the American Museum at Claverton Manor, known for its fine collection of quilts.

Summer visitors will enjoy the wonderful green spaces and maybe a canal boat trip on the Kennet and Avon canal. Bath is also wonderfully central for exploring the attractions of Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, including the Cotswold villages, Longleat House and Wildlife Park, Sudeley Castle, Wells Cathedral, the Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury Tor at any time of year. For the first half of December, the historic open air market in central Bath is transformed into a magical Christmas market, with stalls, carol singers, mulled wine and mince pies.

Our Bath apartments are very centrally located. One is located immediately adjacent to the famous Pulteney Bridge, designed by Robert Adam (c. 1790), with wonderful views over the River Avon. The other is situated adjacent to the Royal Crescent.
