The Milan Apartment Book
Italy
|
Located in the middle of the Po river valley, Milan is important as a commercial centre, and for its historic interest. It is also a starting point for visits to the Italian Lakes. It is a relatively easy city to get around with a good transport system, and its historic centre, where you will find the Duomo and the Teatro alla Scala, can easily be explored on foot.
Five of our apartments are situated at the very heart of the city, just steps from the world-famous Teatro della Scala, the Duomo square and an easy walk from the ultra-chic via Montenapoleone and via della Spiga. Don’t miss the Quadrilatero designer shopping district enclosed between via Montenapoleone and via della Spiga and the trendy Corso Como area. If you love Italy’s history and art, make sure you visit the stunning antique showcases, such as Subert on via S. Spirito or Nella Longari on via Bigli. You can also have fun rummaging through one of the big markets – maybe along the charming Navigli, the old romantic waterways, on the last Sunday of the month. In contrast, contemporary designer furniture can be found in the Corso Montorte/via Durini area. The Brera art district is an atmospheric and lively area with many cafes, restaurants, antique shops, clubs and street stalls.
Many of Milan’s best restaurants can be found in the centre, close to the apartments. Other interesting areas to dine out include the Brera, the Navigli and Corso Como districts where you will find a variety of trendy cafes, bars, pubs, pizzerias and nightclubs.
Our other apartment is just to the north east of the historic centre, an area which includes The Brera quarter, with its famous art gallery and Accademia di Belle Arti, as well as the Corso Venezia and the Quadrilatero with its designer shops and imposing, neo-classical, aristocratic residences. The apartment is in a classic Milanese building known as a ‘casa di ringhiera’ because of their access to open balconies with a balustrade. Situated in via Montello, there are stops for three trams just outside the door, which will take you to the historic centre in a matter of minutes. The Parco Sempione, Milan’s largest park is within five minutes walk. A short walk along Viale Pasubio will bring you to Corso Como with its fashionable store, Corso Como 10, a 13,000 foot complex, which includes the Galleria Carla Sozzani (a photography and design gallery), a bookstore (design books from all over the world), a boutique for men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, hard-to-find imports and other luxury goods. The nearest metro is Moscova (the green line) which will take you to both Garibaldi and Centrale main line stations. The Fiera di Milano hosts international trade fairs and is one of Europe’s prime exhibition venues, especially for the staple Italian industries of fashion, cars and interior designs, and is just a very short taxi ride away.
