This charming house dates back 200 years when it was the central bake oven for the tiny picturesque hamlet of Fontcaudette. Now an ancient cluster of stone houses surrounded by orchards and vineyards, the village sits on the sunny north slopes of the Petit Luberon valley overlooking the perched villages of Menerbes and Lacoste. A few kilometres north is the stunning town of Gordes with cobbled streets, interesting shops, restaurants, art galleries, weekly street market and historic 13th century chateau. A few kilometres south is Coustellet famous for it's weekly Marché Paysanne where farmers bring their wine, cheese, flowers and fresh produce. Antique lovers have L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue with its hundreds of world class dealers. Avignon, Arles, Aix, St. Remy and Marseilles are all within an hour's drive. The house has been imaginatively restored, retaining all its charm and character, including beamed ceilings, authentic stone floors, exposed stone walls, archways and original French windows, as well as the original old oven, incorporated into the design. The accommodation includes a double height living room with fireplace, a library with a balcony and a superb gourmet kitchen/dining room with another large fireplace. Every room is beautifully furnished to the highest standards with an interesting blend of antiques, contemporary furniture and art. Further amenities include satellite TV, WI-FI Internet and stereo CD player. The flower-filled entrance courtyard has a stone fountain and an attractive covered dining area with barbecue, while just across the lane, is an exquisitely designed garden, on several levels and filled with rosemary and lavender, olive trees, oleander, palms, fig trees and vines. Here there is also a lovely swimming pool (11 x 3.5m) and a pergola with comfortable seating and views to the Luberon. Lit with night lighting, it is a magical place to sit in the evenings. The layout, furnishings and open-sided staircases within the house make it an unsuitable property for very young children, and the owner has requested no children under the age of 12 years, except for infants.
