La Rouquette is a spacious, very well laid out holiday house and absolutely perfect for a family with children of any age. Set in completely quiet, wooded rolling hills and fields, this is a sort of paradise only half an hour’s drive from Toulouse’s busy international airport! You can sit on the covered terrace, listen to the birds singing and watch the sun move from east to west around the house as you enjoy the views across the valley to distant clay tiled farmhouses, perhaps with a glass of chilled local rosé wine in your hand! The house is perfectly sited on the side of a valley with fields of sunflowers all around, sheltered by oak woods above and to the side, and surrounded by its own gardens and lawns. The interior is designed so that one space flows easily into the next, and the indoor rooms link well to outside spaces through large French windows – this house has been created out of old farm buildings by a family who know how to enjoy a real Gascony holiday! La Rouquette is a place where you can relax, unwind, walk through wonderful unspoilt countryside, swim, play tennis - or just do nothing…
One of the best features is the large east and south facing covered terrace, extending from the end of house beside the main living room and close to the lovely swimming pool (12x6m and completely fenced with a gate on to the terrace). This terrace is the centre of holiday life: here you can watch small children playing in the pool, eat all your meals if you want (there is a good gas BBQ), play ping pong, sit and read in comfortable chairs, or just watch the butterflies on the banks of lavender…in autumn you may spot the red squirrels taking nuts from the big walnut tree on the lawn in front of the house. Below the gardens is the tennis court with beside it a very pretty covered terrace in which to sit and enjoy watching others take exercise!
On the ground floor, the enormous living/dining room has at one end (close to the kitchen) a long refectory dining table which comfortably seats 12, and at the other end there are three huge sofas grouped around the huge open fireplace. This room has a piano, music system and a TV. There are French windows facing east on to the big covered terrace and north on to the shady rear terrace. The dining area leads into the breakfast room/kitchen, with a table for 8 and a well-equipped and practical kitchen with range cooker (gas/electric), dishwasher, fridge and freezer (there is another large upright fridge/freezer in the adjacent larder). From the breakfast room you go into the small, cosy sitting room, with another large open fireplace. Next to this is the main double bedroom, which has an extra single bed and a large ensuite shower room, twin basins and WC. Across the main corridor from the small sitting room there are two further bedrooms: a twin bedroom with ensuite bathroom and a children’s room with large private shower room along the corridor. This bedroom can be set up either with bunk/single beds for 4/5 children or as a twin bedroom. Upstairs the accommodation is well organised around a central, sunny children’s sitting room/play room with TV, DVD player, video, games player, books and toys. There are three bedrooms, one very large double with en suite shower room and a double and twin bedroom which share a private bathroom off the sitting room, with separate WC and basin.

La Rouquette can be organised either to sleep 12 in six double bedrooms, or to sleep 10 adults in five double bedrooms, plus 6 children (4 in bunk beds and 2 in extra single beds). There are 5 bath/shower rooms and 2 separate WCs with basins. All the bathrooms have heated towel rails. The upstairs bedrooms have electric space heaters. The large living rooms (breakfast room, enormous dining/sitting room, small sitting room) provide ample space for a party of this size. Outside there is a very large covered terrace at the east end of the house, next to the swimming pool, a shady terrace on the north side of the house, and a very attractive small covered terrace down by the tennis court. The large garden provides space for all sorts of games and there is even a proper ‘Terrain des Boules’! The kitchen is very well-equipped and there is a large larder and clothes washing/drying machines in the downstairs bathroom.

20 minutes to the very pretty ‘bastide’ village of Cologne, with all local facilities
25 minutes to Mauvezin – another ‘bastide’ with local facilities, cafes, restaurants, banks, supermarket, pharmacies, doctor and an excellent market on Mondays.
